Don't forget to feed the birds!  Love, Gretchen and Mimi

January 23rd:  We've sure had our share of drama here.  Mom took Mimi last Sunday to get her nails trimmed.  Her former owner didn't pay much attention to Mimi's nails and they are long.  First the Vet trimmed them and Mom and Dad have trimmed them, but Mom thought a professional trim would be a good thing.  NOT!  The groomer at (Big Box Pet Store) put a muzzle on tiny Mimi and then tore one of Mimi's toenails completely out of her paw!  Blood started pouring out. EWWWWW.  I thought Daddy was going to have a stroke.  Their vet technician examined Mimi and gave her pain pills and antibiotics.  Poor Mimi!  I'm sorry she got hurt, but it also means I don't have to go to there any more to get groomed!  (I like to look for the silver lining in these kinds of situations.)  Any way, Mimi has recovered and we're busy playing, eating and napping.  Here's a photo of us napping on the sofa yesterday recuperating from a busy afternoon of play time!

January 6th:  It's the end of the first week of the new year and we hope you are having a good one so far.  Last night, Mimi and I helped Mom take the decorations off the Christmas tree by wrestling around on the tree skirt and playing tag in all the tinsel that had dropped on the floor.  I'm sure Mom really appreciated us lending her a hand.  I mean a paw. Ha ha!  Mimi and I will miss playing with our toys under the Christmas tree and curling up for a nap on the big, soft tree skirt.

We've been enjoying the sunny weather and playing out in the backyard.  Mom or Dad always stays close by because of all the hawks and owls around.  I'm not scared of any old hawk--I'll just pounce on him with all my 14 pounds of might.  Yes, I now weigh 14 pounds because of all the extra snacks Mom and Dad are handing out so Mimi gains a little weight.  And to keep things fair, when one of us gets something so does the other one.  Dad says he needs to take me to the farm with him to get some exercise.  I'm ready--I love the farm and now I can show Mimi all the best spots to explore.  I hope you have lots of new places to explore and someone special to go exploring with.

December 30th:  Mimi and I had a great Christmas.  Santa brought us both a squeaky toy and a stocking full of treats.  The whole family came over to celebrate with us.  We sure had fun together.  Mimi and I got to have our own pieces of ham and some cranberry sauce for dinner.  Yummy!  And it snowed on Tuesday!  We love to go outside and play in the snow.  When we play outside, Mimi runs to the chicken pen and says "hi" to the chickens.  She just watches them, but I like to bark at them and try to figure out how to get in the pen to chase them. I haven't figured out how to get in there, but I keep trying!

                                                                       Daddy introduces Mimi to Brendan.

It's almost the end of another wonderful year.  We have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for.  Mimi joined our family and we love her very much.  A new healthy baby grandson joined our family.  And today is Grandma's 90th birthday!  We've had lots of fun and made lots of great memories this year.  Mimi and I send you our best wishes for a wonderful 2012. We hope all your new year wishes come true!

December 9th:  Hi Everyone!  Mimi and I have been busy playing and taking naps on the nice soft tree skirt under our Christmas tree.  Mimi is feeling much better now that her ear infection has cleared up.

Mom and Dad went to Memphis last weekend (Without me! Okay, without us!) to see oldest son, Joe, run in the St. Jude Hospital Marathon.  And Mom has always wanted to visit Graceland at Christmas time, so Mom and Dad visited Elvis, too.  Here is a photo of Mom outside Graceland.  Drew came home from college to spend the weekend with us.  So even though Mom and Dad abandoned us to go cavorting around Memphis, Mimi and I had a good time at home. Thank you.  Thank you very much.

November 28th:  Wow, it sure got cold, didn't it?  Mimi and I have to wear our coats outside now.  We think we want to go out, so Mom puts our coats on us. But then we decide it's too cold and we want back in.  We change our minds a lot.

Mimi had to visit the Vet the other day.  Mom always takes us to the nice doctor at the Humane Society because she likes to support such a wonderful organization. Mom suspected that Mimi had an ear infection and, sure enough, poor Mimi's ears were infected.  The doctor gave her ear drops to make her better. Mimi does NOT like to have medicine in her ears.  (Better her than me, I say!)  Anyway, other than that, Mimi is perfect.  She weighs 6 pounds and 14 ounces so she is about half my size.  We love to chase each other around the house until we get tired. Then we cuddle up on the couch under a blanket and take a nap.  And we really like to watch Mom make dinner and hope she drops something!  I'm glad Mimi came to live with us.

November 22nd:  Big News!  Meet my new sister, Mimi.  Click on the "Meet Mimi" page under "My Adventures".

Mimi and I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and don't forget to share some turkey with your favorite pet!

November 3rd:  Mom and I have been walking on the levee trail by our house.  Daddy said I needed to lose weight so Mommy has been walking my little legs off.  I like to talk walks as much as any dog, but gee whiz, Mom, take it easy!

Can you believe it's November already?  Soon it will be time for Santa Claus.  I will have to be a good little German girl--but not quite yet.  I'm so little I'm betting that Santa won't notice everything I do.  Besides, what's a torn up sock or two, right?  Or that pile of tissue I managed to shred all over the bathroom?  Still, I better straighten up and be good, just in case.  Tomorrow.

October 26th:  Hi Everyone!  Are you ready for Halloween?  I sure am.  I'm going as a hot dog.  Cute, huh?  Actually, I only wore this because Mom promised me treats.  Gotta keep her happy.  I've been busy helping Mom around the house, visiting Grandma and mooching snacks from Daddy.  I hope you are having a good week and that you have lots of fun on Halloween.

October 12th:   Yesterday was my fifth birthday!  Mom and Dad gave me peanut butter doggy treats and a new squeaky toy.  Gee, I love birthdays.

Last weekend we took a drive to Eolia so Dad could visit with a client who needed help with some brush and tree removal.  They had a Springer Spaniel named Daisy and we became fast friends.  Daisy and I ran and played and went exploring while Mom and Dad visited.  After that, we took a ride to an antique store and looked at lots of stuff.  I thought it was kind of boring because there weren't any snacks or squirrels to chase or anything fun like that.  We did stop for a late lunch and I got to have some french fries so it all worked out fine.

I've also been helping Mom around the house.  She was hanging some new drapes the other day and I helped by playing in the middle of them with my very favorite green tennis ball.  Mom decided I should play out on the deck with Jasmine.  I don't think she appreciated my help at all!

I hope you are having a great fall and enjoying the weather and the fall colors.

September 26th:  What a fun weekend.  Daddy, Mommy and I drove up to our farm and spent the night in our RV, "Dorothy".  Mom and I went exploring while Dad worked on some stuff on the RV.  It's so much fun to run and play on the farm.  Twenty acres is a lot to explore when your legs are only four inches long!  For dinner, Mom grilled hot dogs on the little barbeque grill.  I got my very own hot dog.  Yum!  After dinner, Mom toasted marshmallows, but I didn't get any of those.  Too sticky for me.  Then Dad and I went off on our own to see what we could see.  We surprised a great big owl sitting on a tree stump.  He was as startled as we were!  We made our way back to the RV just as it was getting dark.  Boy, you can sure see lots of stars out in the country.  We all stood outside for a few minutes looking at the beautiful night sky.  Mom and Dad read for awhile, then we all got warm and cozy in bed and went to sleep.  Of course, I still woke up at 5:00 am. looking for breakfast.  I was back in bed  relaxing with Mom and looking out the wndow when I saw a deer right next to the RV.  I let Dad know he was standing right outside because I was growling.  GRRRRR! I am a fierce protector and very brave.  I wished I could have chased him!  Dad was really excited to see that deer.

I hope you are having fun now that the cool Fall weather is here!

September 2nd:  Gee, it's Labor Day weekend already and the end of another summer.  I hope your summer has been fun.

It's sure been busy around here.  Drew moved back to Columbia for the new school year.  I miss hanging out with him.  Grandma came home from the hospital.  Daddy has been busy working on his bee hives and harvesting honey.  Mom is working on making lip balm and lotions with honey in it.  Daddy caught a possum sneaking into the chicken pen.  (Don't worry--he took the possum for a ride and set him free a few miles away.) And I've been busy getting into trouble.  I chewed up a pair of shorts, had an accident on the bedroom rug and chewed a few holes in a pair of Dad's socks.  All in a day's work for me!  I wish it would cool off, though.  It's awful hot to play outside so Jasmine and I have been hanging out together inside where it's cool.

There's going to be a family picnic on Sunday at Grandma and Grandpa's.  Hot dogs!  Chips!  Snacks!  I love picnics and Grandpa always shares with me.   It will be Grandma's first party since she came home.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend and a super Fall season ahead!

August 10th:  I've gotten into the habit of waking Mom up at 4:00 a.m because I'm hungry and I want breakfast.  Why wait for a good thing, right?  Mom does not think that getting up at 4:00 is such a great idea.  I'm guessing she's not as hungry at 4:00 a.m. as I am.  Mom decided that I needed a good long walk in the evening to tire me out so I'd sleep until the alarm clock goes off.  Last night, Mom took me for a walk on the levee trail.  It's one of my favorite things to do.  Lots of things to see and smell and there are always people to wag my tail at and sometimes other dogs to visit with.  So Mom walks my little three inch legs off last night.  And guess what time I woke Mom up this morning?  Yep, 4:00 a.m.  Sorry, Mom!

July 28th: I got to visit Grandma at St. John's Rehabilitation Hospital.  Daddy and Mom took me over there for a visit.  I was so happy to see her and she was glad to see me too.  I was very good and sat quietly on her bed after I gave her some kisses.  We visited for about 30 minutes.  Daddy said he would take me again this weekend.  I hope so because I sure love Grandma.

Here is a photo Mom took of one of the butterflies in our garden.  We have dozens of butteflies because our whole front yard is all flowers.  Soon they will start their journey south for the winter.

July 19th:  Mom came home from work the other night and said "Come on, let's go for a ride."  Yeah!!! I'm always ready to take a ride.  So we get in the car and guess where we ended up?  At the veterinarian's office.  Not Sonic or McDonald's, but the vet.  Mom takes me to the nice doctors at the Humane Society because she  supports of all their good work and the fees help pay for the animals' care and feeding.

First they weighed me, which didn't turn out so well.  I'm two pounds overweight.  No more tator tots in my future.  Then we went to the exam room where they stood me on a table and petted me and told me how good I was. Next thing I know the doctor is coming at me with a treat in one hand and a needle in the other.  I was distracted by the treat and got surprised by the needle.  Hey, watch it, doc!  Then I fell for it a second time.  Ouch!  And then she squirted something up my nose.  Okay, doc, I've had enough.  (You know, they don't do things like that at Sonic. The nice people there just bring me tator tots which, if you ask me, is a much better deal.)

All in all, I guess it wasn't so bad.  The doctor sent me home with a bag of (diet) treats and I spent the evening cuddled up with Mom in Dad's recliner.  And when Dad got home he shared some of his ice cream with me when Mom wasn't watching.  (Don't tell on me!) The moral of this story is watch out when someone offers you a treat.  They might be about to give you a shot!

July 12th:  Mom and Dad have been extra busy...taking a vacation without me!  I had to stay home with Jasmine.  Not fair!  Mom and Dad drove to Memphis and then on to New Orleans for a little R&R.  They ate barbeque and took a carriage ride around Memphis and listened to an Elvis impersonator and ate lots of seafood and all kinds of fun things.  Without me!

Also, Mom has opened her honey stand in the driveway.  So, if you're in the Chesterfield area, stop by.  We have three sizes; 16 ounces, 8 ounces and 4 ounces.  The stand is there every day and evening, too.  You just pick your honey and leave your money in the jar.  Easy!  Dad is very proud that his honey bees are producing such beautiful honey.

On another topic, I ate Daddy's watchband this morning.  It was just lying there on the bedroom floor and looked so tasty and before I knew it, I had eaten it.  But, I didn't get into too much trouble.  Daddy gave me a mean look and said, "Gretchen! What did you do?"  I thought it was pretty obvious what I had done, so I gave him my big brown-eyed look and Daddy gave me a hug.  Daddy is a pretty soft touch.

Most important, please keep my Grandma, Mary Duever, in your prayers.  She has been sick but is getting better every day.  We love you, Grandma!!!!  Daddy says I can go visit her soon.

Please keep cool and don't forget your pets, too.  I recommend ice cream!

June 17:  Happy Friday.  I hope you have a nice weekend.
And Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

June 10th:    I have lots to tell you!

Dad and Mom have a new grandson.  Nicholas James was born May 31st and weighed 9 pounds, 14 ounces.  He's cute!  Here is a photo of Daddy and Nicholas.  Congratulations to his parents, Joe and Laura, and to his big brother Brendan.

Mom and Dad went on an adventure last weekend without me!  They spent the weekend in Kansas City so Mom could visit the Princess Diana exhibit.  She said she's always wanted to see Diana's wedding dress in person.  Mom was all excited.  There were also 25 of Diana's dresses and evening gowns on display along with some of her favorite childhood things and a history of her family.  Mom said now she can cross that off her "wish list" of things to see and that Dad can do no wrong for at least a month or two for taking her.

Mom and Dad also visited Dad's cousin Linda's 15-acre farm located about 30 minutes outside KC.  The farm is named "Prairie Birthday Farm".  Linda has chickens, ducks, bees and grows fruits, herbs and produce organically and supplies fresh food to several KC-area restaurants.  Here is a link you can visit.  http://www.prairiebirthdayfarm.com

June 1st:  Be sure to check out my latest adventure called "My RV Adventure".

I hope you're staying cool and having fun.  Are you planning any adventures of your own this summer?  There's so much to see and do.  Take your favorite pet with you and go out and explore.  Here's to the funnest summer ever!

May 26th:  This weekend is the official start of Summer.  Yeahhh, Summer Time!     Our First Official Road Trip of Summer:   Mom, Dad and I are driving up to the farm and we're going to spend the weekend with Grandpa and Grandma and Uncle Jim and Aunt Val.  And my friend, Honey, the laborador, and Sasha, the Siamese cat and her three new kittens.  I love to play with the kittens,  but they scratch sometimes, which is not so fun.  Mom says she will take lots of pictures and add a new adventure for me next week.  ('Bout time, Mom!)

Mom's baking cupcakes and making lots of delicious things to take along with us.  We're going to spend the night in our RV named "Dorothy".  Mom named the RV that because she says its going to take us down the yellow brick road.  (Gotta wonder about Mom once in a while, don't you?)  I'm ready for fun in the sun and exploring and getting all wet in Uncle Jim's fishing pond.  Mom always decorates the driveway with American flags and makes red, white and blue things to eat.  (Oh well, I'll eat anything even if its blue!)

If you know a Veteran, be sure to give him or her a great big "Thank You!".

May 6th:  Well, now that's Mom has come down from her "Royal Wedding High", she can pay attention to my website!  Things have been kind of quiet this week--no storms.  I hope you made it through all the bad weather okay.  Mom took a photo of a rainbow and posted in "My Photo of the Week".  Pretty!
I've been busy playing and eating--you know, the usual stuff.  Mom has been busy in the yard and helping Dad at his business.  Mom designs custom planters and containers for some of Dad's clients, so she's been spending a lot of time with flowers and plants.  She and I have been talking walks on the Levee Trail which is always fun.  There are always friendly people and their dogs walking along the trail and enjoying the sunshine.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend and to all the Mom's out there---Happy Mother's Day!!!!  XXXXOOOO from me.

April 21st:  Hi Everyone.  Happy Easter to you!  Mom's going to make ham and cake for the family celebration.  Yummy!  I can't wait to help her and be the official taste tester.  And the chickens are laying lots of eggs for us to turn into Easter eggs. Everyone is going to Grandma and Grandpa's on Sunday.  And it's Mom's birthday on Easter, too.  She's going to be 39.  Again!  I wonder how many years that is in dog years?  I'm going to give her a big kiss for a present.  I hope you have a wonderful and happy Easter.

March 17th:  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Be sure to check out my latest adventure, "Daddy's Birthday Party".

What a beautiful day.  I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy it.  Mom is planning on planting pansies this weekend.  The daffodils in the yard are ready to bloom.  Spring is here.

February 25th: Snow again!  Gee, it's cold and wet.  Too wet for me and Jasmine to play outside today.  We're staying snuggled up on the couch.  Last Sunday, Dad and Mom and I rode up the Grandpa's farm to check on the cows.  A brand new baby was born right as we got there.  She was so little she could stand completely underneath her Mom.  It was pretty muddy, but Mom and I went for a walk and looked for arrowheads while Dad got out the tractor and moved hay for the cows.  On the way home, we stopped at Cramer's Country Store for hamburgers and Cokes.  Yummmmm!  The best hamburgers around.

February 18th:   Wow, the weather has been so nice!  Dad, Mom and I went for a walk on the Chesterfield Levee Trail last night.  It was so much fun.  There was hardly anyone else out there so Mom and Dad let go of my leash and I ran on ahead of them whenever I wanted.  We walked almost all the way to the Boone Bridge.  Mom and I went running for part of the way while Dad sat down on the hillside and called to the Canada geese flying overhead.  A couple of bike riders rode by him while he was calling to the geese. They sure gave him a funny look!  That's okay, Dad's used to that--I give him funny looks all the time.
Have a great weekend everyone!  Maybe I'll see you out on the Trail.

February 9th:  Brrrrrr...it's too cold to play outside.  Dad took me for a walk last night for about five minutes and we were both ready to go back inside and get warm.  The chickens are keeping warm and toasty with the heat lamp inside their house.  Mom says they look like old ladies sunning themselves on a beach.  Mom has been keeping the birds fed and put out some apples and carrots for the deer and rabbits to nibble on.  I'm sure glad I'm not a rabbit!  I went for a ride to the hardware store on Sunday to help Dad pick up some lightbulbs and stuff.  I love visiting the hardware store and riding around in the cart.   I hope you are starying warm and cozy.  And be sure to check out my latest adventure, "Feeding The Cows".

January 25th:  Hi Everyone!  I hope you are surviving the cold, snowy weather.  Be sure to check out my latest adventure called "Snow Day".  Everyone here is fine and I have been keeping busy playing with my favorite green tennis ball since it's too cold for me to play on the deck.  Jasmine says "hello".

December 28th:  What a great Christmas!  The snow on Christmas Eve was so beautiful.  I had lots of fun playing in it.  It was up to my chin and I had to hop up and down to get through it! This is a photo that Mom took of our house during the snowstorm.

On Christmas morning, I opened my presents from Santa.  He brought me some new tennis balls and chewy treats.  Later, the whole family came over for lunch and presents.  I got to see Grandma and Grandpa and everyone.  Mom made ham and mostiaciolli (but she's not sure how to spell it!) and everyone brought a side dish to share.  I tried hard to look extra cute and got lots of table scraps.  Then everyone opened presents.  Gee, what fun we had.  I hope you had a wonderful, happy Christmas!

December 15th:  Hi Everyone!  I hope you have been having lots of fun during this holiday season.  Daddy's surprise gift was delivered last Saturday--a Lazy Boy rocker/recliner.  Mom put a big red bow on it and waited for Dad to come home and notice it.  When Dad came home later that day, he stood right by it talking to Mom and didn't even see it.  Finally, Mom said, "Gee you must be tired.  Why don't you sit down in your new recliner?"  Daddy said, "What recliner?" and then he smiled and said, "Oh, boy!" and sat right down.  He sure was surprised!  I hope you get a surprise or two yourself.

December 1st:  Christmas is coming!  I helped Mom decorate the Christmas tree on Monday.  When she dropped an ornament, I made sure to step on it.  Then I decided that the tree skirt makes an excellent place to take a nap.  I even know where Mom is hiding some Christmas cookies from Dad!  I hope she knows I am an expert cookie-taster!

November 24th:  It's the day before Thanksgiving.  I can't wait for all the good things to eat tomorrow.  I am very grateful for my Mom, Dad, brother Drew, and Jasmine and that I have a family that loves me and takes such good care of me.  Every puppy should be as lucky as me.  And I'm grateful for you for visiting with me throughout the year.  I hope you have lots to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.  Have fun and I'll talk to you soon.

November 12th:  Last weekend, Dad and Mom and me took Dorothy the RV up to Uncle Jim's farm.  Dad drove the RV and Mom and I followed him in Dad's truck.  When we got to the farm, we parked next to the little cabin across from Uncle Jim's house.  Dad painted waterproofing on the RV's roof while Mom and I walked and played.  We even saw a bald eagle flying overhead.  Mom made me come and stand by her while the eagle flew over.  Daddy said he was really giving me the eye!  Awwww, he wouldn't bother with little old me anyway.  We dachshunds don't taste very good!    Here is a photo of Dad standing in the doorway of Dorothy the RV.  Then we drove to Grandpa's farm to check on the cows.  Here's a photo of the cows.  See the Mom with her new baby in the background?  On the way home, we stopped at McDonald's. As usual, I got my own little bag of fries.  What a perfect afternoon!

November 3rd:  Well November is here already and soon it will be Thanksgiving.  I'm dreaming of turkey and dressing and gravy!!!!!  Anyway, Halloween was fun.  If you look at "My Photo of the Week", you'll see me in my Halloween finery posing with a pumpkin.  (I got a treat for posing, so it's all good.)  Sunday afternoon, Dad took me and Mom for a ride in our new RV.  Well, it's used, but it's new to us!  Mom and Dad named the RV "Dorothy" because they said it will take us down the yellow brick road.  (You gotta wonder about those two!)  Mom's been stocking it up with new bedding and dishes and stuff and getting it ready for our new adventures.  I sat in Mom's lap while Dad took us for a spin around the neighborhood.  Soon, we'll take Dorothy up to the farm.  I can't wait.   I'm always ready to go somewhere.  Here's a picture of Dad and me getting ready to take a ride.  I hope you are having a fun week.

October 20th:  Mom and Dad went on a trip last weekend without me!  They spent the weekend in Blackwater and Arrow Rock, Missouri with Uncle Jim, Aunt Val and Grandma and Grandpa.  Drew came home from college and he took care of me and Jasmine.  I love Drew, but I don't know why I couldn't go on the trip, too.

Here is a photo of Mom at the winery in Rocheport where they all had lunch (without me!) on Saturday.  Then they spent the night in Blackwater at the Iron Horse Hotel.  On Sunday, they drove to Arrow Rock and saw a play at the Lyceum Theater.  I'm glad they had fun, but they owe me Big Time!

October 12th:  I turned 4 years old yesterday!  Mom and I spent a fun day together for my birthday.  We went shopping at the pet store and I picked out a treat.  Yummy!  We looked at the fish and the pretty birds and met some nice people who petted me.  Then we went home and Mom gave me a bath.  (Hey, that's not very fun, Mom!)  But, after my bath, Jasmine and I went out to play in the sunshine.  Jasmine watched the birds and I ate the birdseed that had fallen out of the birdfeeder.   I got to share a little piece of the pot roast and veggies that Mom made for dinner.  More yumminess.  Then, we curled up on the couch and cheered for Kurt Warner on Dancing With The Stars.  Well, I took a nap while Mom cheered for Kurt.  Dad came home and watched the rest of the show with us.  He said Dancing With The Stars is a highlight of his life.  Mom said sarcasm is not really an attractive quality.  I'm not sure what all that means, but I am sure that I had a really nice birthday.

September 30th:  Last weekend, everyone met up at Grandma and Grandpa's farm for a fish fry.  A friend of Grandma and Grandpa's loves to fish and he always brings them some.  Mmmmmm....it sure was good.  We had fish and potato salad and cake for dessert.  Mom and Dad and I walked all around the farm.  I barked at the cows and ran when they tried to come near me to see me better.  Ha ha--I'm too fast for those cows.

Last night, Mom and Dad and I went for a walk on the levee trail.  Dad rode his bike and Mom and I walked.  And walked and walked.  I walked my short little legs off!  It was really fun.  There were lots of people and I met three other dogs--two great big ones and one little Yorkie who was even smaller than I am.  We three had a great time.  When we got home, we all had a snack and then I took a nap before bedtime.  I was tired!  Then I snuggled in bed with Mom and Dad and we all had a good night's sleep.  I hope you had a chance to get out and enjoy!

September 17th:  Isn't it beautiful weather!  Jasmine and I have been busy playing outside on the deck.  Jasmine likes to sit very still and watch the birds coming to have a snack at the birdfeeder and I like to bark at the cars going by and the workmen at the nursery next door.  Yesterday I helped Mom wash the floors by following around behind her and leaving little paw prints on the wet floor.  Mom didn't think that was as much fun as I did.  But I got a chewy treat out of it to keep me busy and out of the way.  Works for me!  Then Mom and I cleaned the old pots and summer plants off of the deck and we planted pretty orange and red mums.  It's looking like autumn at our house.  I hope you have a lovely weekend.  Get outside and take your favorite dog for a walk. (Yeah, Mom, let's go!)

September 7th:  Wow, a lot has been happening.  Let's see....first I'll tell you about my evening at the Boat House in Forest Park.  Mom, Dad and I had dinner there almost two weeks ago.  It sure was fun.  Dad shared his french fries with me and lots of people stopped to tell me I was cute.  Here's a photo of me and Dad posing by the pretty flowers at the entrance to the Boathouse.

Then, Mom and Dad left for Las Vegas.  Without me!!!  They went flying off to Sin City all by themselves to celebrate their wedding anniversary.  Not fair!  I had to stay home with Jasmine.  Aunt Judy and Grandma came over and fed me and played with me and then Drew came home for the weekend.  Finally, after four whole days, Mom and Dad came back home.  About time, you guys!

Here is a photo of Mom gambling away my puppy chow money in Vegas.  Without me.

August 19th:  I caught a mouse last night!  What a fearless hunter I am.  Mommy ruined my fun though.  She heard me in the hallway growling at something and stopped to see what I was doing.  She had a bad feeling and asked Dad to go see what I was up to.  He caught me with the mouse in my mouth.  It was mine, fair and square!  Daddy tried to take it away, but I held on tight.  Finally, he pinched my nose so I couldn't breathe and I had to drop the mouse.  Not fair, Dad.  Mom is freaking out that we had a mouse in the house so Dad is on mouse trap duty.  Jasmine was jealous that I caught it and she didn't.  You just can't mess with us German girls.

Mom took photos last night of some of the butterflies in our garden.  Every night, dozens of butterflies stop in to have a snack.  Look on "My Slideshow" for the photos.

August 13th:  It's Friday the 13th.  I hope it is a lucky day for you!

Things have been busy around the house.  A carpenter was here to replace the patio door with french doors.  His name was Mike and I enjoyed helping him with his work.  I loved running in and out of the house to the deck when he took down the old door.  Fun!  I think Mike appreciated my company. I tried to let him know that he was doing a good job by wagging my tail a lot.  We German girls are so friendly and helpful.

Dad has been harvesting squash, cantelopes and cucumbers from our garden and he always gives me samples.  It's important to get your five-a-day fruits and veggies.  Dad is very proud of his garden.  The chickens enjoy the fruit and veggies, too, and Dad gives them lots of good things to eat from the garden. Grandma sends things from her garden, too, so they are very well fed hens.

Drew gave me a buzz cut with his trimmer thingy so now I have a new shorter summer 'do.  I like it--so much cooler.  Mom says I look like even cuter than ever.

This weekend Drew leaves to go back to Mizzou.  I'll miss him.  I like exploring his room--there's always such interesting things all over the floor like dirty socks and leftover food.  It's lots of fun sniffing around in there.  And I like to snuggle up in his bed and watch tv.  As soon as he's gone, Mom will be in there cleaning things up.  Darn it!  Mom just doesn't appreciate a good mess.

August 2nd:  Mom, Dad and I spent the weekend in the country with Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  We always have such a good time up there.  I got to play with my friend Honey, the Labrador, and take a look at the four new kittens that their Siamese cat, Sasha, had last month.  They sure are cute!  Three of them are boys and they are all black and the girl is a calico.  Uncle Jim and Aunt Val are keeping all of them (to Mom's disappointment who was ready to kidnap the little girl and bring her home with us).  I went shopping at the Apple Wagon with Mom and Aunt Val and visited all my Apple Wagon friends.  If you stop by there, be sure to tell them Gretchen says "hi".

July 21st:  Here's a photo that Mom took of a buck who stopped in our
backyard for a snack yesterday evening.

July 19th:  Mom says sorry to be so long to update my news page, but things have been crazy busy.  Mom has been helping out Dad in his office, working at her regular job and helping out Grandma since she has not been feeling too great the last few weeks.  Yesterday, Dad and Mom and I visited Grandma and Grandpa.  We brought along a chocolate cake Mom had made and had a really nice visit.  I got to go for a walk back by the greenhouses and explore the yard and pond.

Grandpa has two new baby calves up at the farm.  He named them Joe and Joanna after Mom and Dad.  I can't wait to see them.

Summer is breezing by and soon Drew will be leaving for Mizzou.  I'll miss him when he leaves.  I like it when his friends come over to visit.  I get to bark at them and then they pet me.  Works for me!  And sometimes I cuddle up with him in his room and we watch television together. Drew has been working at Dad's business all summer, helping with the landscaping and driving a truck and stuff like that.  All the hard work in the hot sun is making him appreciate his college education a lot!

We have two new baby pigeons out in the pen who are just starting to fly.  They still have some of their yellow baby fuzz on their heads.  They sure are cute.  The chickens are enjoying leftover tomatoes from Grandpa's garden.  They love tomatoes!  I'd rather have a hamburger.

Have a great week, everybody!

July 1st:  Wow, it's July already!  Summer is going by fast.  Mom took me for a walk today--I hope you had a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful day.  We have two parties to go to this weekend.  One is a birthday party at a restaurant and the other is a family party.  What's that, Mom?  I only get to go the family party on Sunday?  Not fair, Mom!!!  You could dress me up as a guide dog and no one would know the difference!
Grandma and Grandpa had a wonderful time at their 60th anniversary party (or so I'm told as I wasn't allowed to go to that party either!)  Mom will post some photos in a few days.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend and watch out for those fireworks!

June 25th:  Hello Everyone!  What a beautiful day it is today.  I hope you were able to get out and enjoy it.  I got to play on the deck and bark at the birds coming to have a snack at the bird feeder.  Mom says I shouldn't bark at them, but I think they like the attention.  Besides, I get to eat the birdseed that they drop.  And I love to chase the big gray squirrel that climbs up on the deck to eat the birdfood.  He took a flying leap off the deck yesterday when I came barrelling out the back door.  Boy, that was fun!!  Gee, I have a good life.
This weekend we are celebrating Grandma and Grandpa's 60th wedding anniversary.  We love them so much.  I hope you have a terrific weekend and I'll talk to you soon.

June 18th:  Wow, I am one hot dog!!  Ha ha, I couldn't resist saying that.  But, it sure is hot outside lately.  I hope you have been staying cool.  I like playing outside, but this is even too hot for me.  I even sleep on top of the covers at night instead of under them, like I usually do.  On Sunday, Grandma and Grandpa are coming over for dinner for Father's Day.  I love them so much.  Mom said I will have to take a bath, but I don't mind if I get to see them.  I'm going to give Daddy lots of great big kisses for Father's Day.  I know he likes those!

June 3rd:  Wow, what a fun weekend.  Everyone met at Grandpa and Grandma's farm to visit and play.  We took a long walk with Grandpa to look for arrowheads.  It was fun to explore all over the farm.  Mom's team won the washers tournament with the girls vs. the boys.  Then we all had fried chicken for supper.  Yummy!

May 26th:  Gee, it's great to play outside again.  Mom, Dad and I took a ride to Clarksville on Sunday to visit an antique shop that Dad had seen a few months ago.  It was lots of fun.  They like dogs and I was able to go inside and look around.  Mom found some Royal Copley items to add to her collection.  Dad bought a great big brass bucket.  I shared snacks with Mom and Dad on the ride home.

I hope you have a fun holiday weekend.  Don't forget to say a prayer for our troops and for all those who have served our country.

May 15th:  Rain, rain go away.  I want to play in the sunshine.  Yesterday, I helped Mom paint her dressing room.  She has a room all her own with all her books and her desk and her favorite things.  I was very helpful and kept my nose out of the paint pan.  Jasmine and I like to play in there and curl up with Mom in her chair while she reads or crochets.  And if I jump up in her chair and stand on the arm, I can look out the window and bark at the birds and the bicyclists.  I hope you have a cozy spot to curl up in on this rainy weekend.

May 8th:  I hope you have been enjoying the nice weather.  I love to play out in the sunshine, don't you?  Mom and I like to blow bubbles out on the deck--well Mom blows the bubbles and I chase them!  Tomorrow is Mother's Day and I hope you have a great day!

Mom says the Humane Society has lots of dachshunds up for adoption now.  Dachsies make the perfect companion, so if you have room in your home and heart, go take a look and see how adorable we German girls (and boys) can be!

April 26th:  It was a dark and stormy night.................

Here is a photo of Mom and the lovely scenery at Chaumette Winery in St. Genevieve.  You will note that I am not in this photo.  I was not even in St. Genevieve at all.  Mom and Dad left me with Jasmine last Saturday to spend a romantic night at the winery.  Let me repeat that.  They actually left me at home for the night so they could go off and have fun.  Without me!  I had to spend the night on the sofa with Jasmine instead of my rightful place cuddling with Mom and Dad in their soft, comfy bed.  I may suffer long-term trauma from this.  Mom said to be sure to tell you that it was really lovely and that they had a wonderful dinner at the winery's restaurant.  The next morning, Dad got up early and went fishing.  Then Mom and Dad went antiquing before they finally showed up back home.  Well, I hope they're not planning any more romantic getaways anytime soon.  At least, not without me.  I mean, really, how old are they, any how?

P.S.  Mom said to also tell you that Woodstock, the pigeon, is flying around on his own now and is ready to join the rest of the flock.  Way to go, Woodstock!

April 14th:  Mom, Dad and I were visiting Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie last Sunday.  First of all, let me say in my own defense, the chickens were right there in front of me.  So you see, it really wasn't my fault that I chased them.  I mean, hey, I'm a noble hunting dog and it's my job to chase things.  Especially funny squawking things like chickens!  Mom, Aunt Valerie and I were just about to go inside for a snack after our walk and there they were.  Four fat, fluffy chickens just hanging out by the front porch and waiting for me to chase them.  So I did.  Boy, chickens are fast.  And they can fly, too.  Not far, but they can.  Like long flying high jumps.  Don't worry, nobody got hurt, but I did get a big mouthful of someone's tail feathers.  I love the country life!

Mom has been hand feeding a baby pigeon that had to be taken out of the coop and put in his own pen.  The little pigeon's parents kicked him out of his nest to make room for new eggs.  The bigger pigeons were picking on him so Dad put him in his own cage inside the chicken pen to keep him safe.  Every day Mom has been feeding him until he learns to do it on his own.  Last night, Mom had just fed him and was watering the vegetable garden when she saw him eating out of his food dish all by himself.  Here is a photo of the little pigeon.  Mom named him Woodstock.

April 5th:  What a great weekend.  I helped Daddy in the backyard garden.  He watered and planted while I ran around the outside of the chicken pen trying to get in.  I think the chickens were laughing at me!   They look like they have a good time in there.  I had lots of fun rolling in the dirt and running all over the yard.  When I came back inside, Mom saw how dirty I was and put me right in the bathtub.  Awww, Mom!  Then Jasmine and I played on the deck.  I love playing in the sunshine.

I have a new doggy cousin named Molly.  She is a mini Doberman Pinscher and she only weighs 4 pounds.  Now I'm not the smallest doggy in the family.  Molly lives in Iowa and was visiting for Easter.  I hope she comes back soon.  Here is Molly posing with Daddy.

Mom made 3 dozen Easter eggs for the family Easter Egg Hunt.  Little Brendan had lots of fun finding them.  He just turned two years old.  Grandpa gave him a wooden helicopter that Grandpa made himself.  Brendan loved it.

I hope you had a fun weekend and that you have a wonderful week!

March 31st:  What a beautiful day.  I hope you are enjoying it.  We're getting ready for Easter at our house.  Mom is busy making three dozen hardboiled eggs for Dad to color for the Easter egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  Mom has decorated our house with lots of pretty Easter things.  I'm being good and hoping the Easter Bunny brings me lots of yummy treats.

Don't forget tomorrow is April Fool's Day.  Go play a funny joke on someone and make them smile!

March 25th: Gee, it's raining cats and dogs (I just had to say that!)  Hope you're staying dry.  Jasmine and I can't go out and play on the deck today so we are following Mom around the house and napping.  Did you see my new video that Mom just uploaded?  It's a video of Daddy and I playing "chase me".  Mom has been trying to figure out how to put videos on my website for a really long time.  I hope you like it.  Mom says there will be more videos to come.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  Give your pets a kiss from me.  It's my big brother, Joe's birthday today (29!) so if you see him, tell him "Happy Birthday!"

March 19th:  It's been a great week.  Last weekend we visited Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie for Uncle Jim's 50th birthday party.  Lots of fun.  I got to visit with everyone and eat lots of yummy stuff.  We all had a good time.

The last couple of days I've been busy chasing Jasmine around the house.  I like to hide and spring out at her and chase her!  Last night, Mom told Jasmine she was a bad cat when she got mad at me, hit me on the nose and made me yelp.  I'm just trying to have fun, but sometimes Jasmine runs out of patience with me.  I hope nobody bops you on your nose!  Have a fun weekend everyone.

March 16th:  Happy Birthday, Daddy!!!

March 8th:  Hi everyone. Today I helped Mom with her errands.  We went to the bank and the dry cleaners.  I love the bank because it has a drive-thru.  And I know that at drive-thru's, I get something to eat.  Like at McDonald's.   Anyway, the nice lady at the bank sent me a dog biscuit in that funny tube thing.  Yum!  That was great.  Then we went home and Mom made me take a bath.  Not so great--Mom didn't make Jasmine take a bath!  But Jasmine and I did get to play out on the deck in the sunshine.  Hey, do you know what my Dad did today? There's a big cell phone/911 tower near the corner of Olive and Ballas Road that's like 300 million feet high.  He climbed all the way up there and changed the big light bulb at the very top of it.  Wow!  Dad is brave.  Mom was really worried--she gets dizzy on a step ladder.  But Dad got the job done!  I love my Dad.  I hope you don't have to do anything that scary this week!

February 26th:  Are you having a good week?  I hope you are.  I have been very busy myself.  I get to play outside on our back deck when it's sunny.  I love to eat the birdseed that drops out of the birdfeeder.  Yummy!  I sniff all the good outside smells and bark at the chickens out in their yard.  I would love to sneak back there and chase them, but Mom and Dad never let me near them anymore.  Darn!  Yesterday I helped Mom clean house by walking over all the wet floor.  I can see my pawprints in the wet parts.  Fun!  Mom doesn't seem to think it's very fun, though.  But, I've noticed that if I keep walking all over the wet floors, Mom either lets me outside or gives me a chewy bone.  Works for me!  Then Jasmine and I go back into Mom's office, jump up into her comfy reading chair next to the window and take a nap together in the warm sun.  Aaahhhh.  Life doesn't get much better than that.

February 10th:  Oh, the season of love!  I don't know about you, but I'm hoping for a big box of treats for Valentine's Day.  All of us girls deserve sweets on the Day of Love, don't you think?  And if no one buys them for you, buy them for yourself.

It's been too cold to do much outside, so I've been taking lots of naps on the soft and comfy couch.  Jasmine has been getting into a lot of trouble lately, so that takes the heat off me (ha ha!)  Next to her, I'm looking like a little angel.

Here's hoping you get your heart's desire for Valentine's.  Love and kisses, your little Valentine, Gretchen.

January 20th:  Hello to all my friends.  I hope everything is great with you.  Mom, Dad and I drove to Alton on Sunday to go eagle watching.  We saw five eagles in all.  We stopped for dinner on the way back.  We sure had a fun time together.

In today's West County edition of the Surburban Journals, there is a photo of my Dad with a cardinal perched on his finger.  You can see the photo on my "Photo of the Week" tab.  Tell Dad you saw him!

January 6th:  Did you see today's West County edition of the Surburban Journals?  Mom and Dad are in the article about people who keep backyard chickens.  You'll notice this article does not mention me at all.  Not fair!!   I was really nice to the reporter, too.

In the actual newspaper there is a photo of Mom holding Opal, one of our hens, but it isn't in the online version.  Check it out here. http://suburbanjournals.stltoday.com/articles/2010/01/06/west/special_feature/0106wc-chickens00.txt

January 5th:  Hi everyone.  Hope you are staying warm in this cold weather.  Mom won't let me go outside at all.  I did sneak out onto the deck when Mom went out to refill the bird feeder.  Brrrrr....I ran right back inside as soon as I ate some birdseed first.  A reporter came to our house last week to interview Mom and Dad about having chickens.  They took a picture of Mom out in the chicken pen.  They didn't take any photos of me at all!  Humpf.

December 29th:  What a wonderful Christmas!  Santa brought me a new squeaky toy and a bag of chewy bones and treats.  Everyone in the family came to our house on Christmas Day and we had so much fun.  We had a turkey and a ham and lots of good things to eat.  Grandpa made sure I got lots of samples.
I hope you had a very Merry Christmas, too.  Have a Happy New Year.  Let's all make 2010 a terrific year!

December 22nd: Mom and I are baking Christmas cookies and I am the official taste tester.  Santa will be here in 3 days!  I can't wait to see what he brings me.  I hope he brings you lots of nice things, too.

December 15th:  Hi everyone.  Are you having a great December?  I hope so.  I have been trying so very hard to be good.  Last weekend we visited Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  It was lots of fun and I didn't even chase one chicken!
I love playing and taking naps underneath the Christmas tree.  It's my favorite spot in the house unless someone is eating--then my favorite spot is right next to them.  Here is a photo of me and Daddy relaxing on the sofa last night.  Being good is very tiring.  You be good, too, and I'll see you soon!

December 2nd:  It's been busy around our house.  Last weekend, Mom put up the downstairs Christmas tree and Dad put up all the outside lights.  The lights look awesome!  There are white lights on the roof, multicolored lights on all the shutters and more white lights in the topiary trees on the front porch.  And white chaser lights all around the front door.  Santa, we're ready and waiting!

November 17th:  Last weekend we visited Aunt Valerie and Uncle Jim.  They have a new cat named Sasha.  She is a very pretty Siamese cat.  I really like her and tried to play with her, but she's not too sure she likes me yet.  Mom is getting ready to start decorating the house for Christmas.  And Thanksgiving is next week.  Oh boy.  Turkey and dressing and gravy!  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

November 4th:  Check out my costume in my latest adventure.  I hope you got lots of treats for Halloween.

October 28th:  Wow, Halloween is almost here.  Mom said she will take a picture of me in my pirate costume and post it for you to see.
I hope you have fun on Halloween, too.  And don't forget to set your clocks back one hour.  Remember, Spring forward and Fall back.

October 20th:  You'll have to excuse my Mom--she's been super busy.  Drew fell down some steps and broke his collar bone and had to have surgery at the hospital in Columbia.  He's been home the last few days recovering and playing with me!

My 3rd birthday was super fun.  I got a new chewy bone and some special treats.  I'm a lucky puppy.

Mom and Dad's picture was in the newspaper.  They had their photo taken at a fundraiser for Tower Grove Park.  They thought that was a nice surprise.

Guess what!  Mom saw the orange kitty again that she's been trying to find for two months.  He was in our side yard under some bushes, but ran away.  Mom is putting out food to try to get him to feel safe around us.  She's worried since it will be cold soon and since our road is so busy he might get hit by a car.

Last weekend we went to Grandpa's farm and checked on the cows.  There was a brand new baby girl calf that was just born!  She was sooo cute.  I tried to run up to her and say hi, but her Mom chased me away.  Darn!

Well, I guess we're caught up on all the latest news.  Be good, have fun and talk to you soon!

October 6th:  Another fun weekend.  Read about my latest adventure, "My Visit to John's Farm".  I hope you are happy and having fun, too.   My birthday is this Sunday.  I'll be three years old.  If you are an October baby, Happy Birthday to you!

September 30th:  Hello everyone.  Wow it was a busy weekend.  Drew came home from Mizzou.  I like when Drew comes home.  He plays with me and lets me take naps on his bed.  He also eats alot and I get to have samples.

A hummingbird flew into the kitchen on Saturday.  Mom left the patio door open so Jasmine and I could play on the deck.  The hummingbird flew in and quick-as-a-wink I grabbed it.  Don't worry, I didn't hurt it.  I just held it in my mouth until Mom made me drop it.  She took a close look at it to make sure it wasn't hurt and then took it outside and it flew away.  Awwww, I just wanted to play with it.  On Sunday, we drove up to Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie's house.  Honey and I got to play and go for a long walk to visit the cows.  Then we helped pick pears from the big pear tree to give to Grandma.  We went shopping at The Apple Wagon and stopped at McDonald's--one of my very most favorite places in all the world.  I got to have my own little bag of french fries.  Yummmm!!!!

Here is a picture of the special cake that Mom baked for her niece, Maddie's birthday.  It has cute marzipan pumpkins on it.  I did not get to have any of it.
Not fair!  My birthday is coming soon.  I hope I get something special, too.

September 11th:  Mom bought my Halloween costume.  I'm going to be a pirate.  I have a hat with a parrot on it and a pirate shirt.  Shiver me timbers!  Dad says he is going to be a pirate, too, and take me along to visit his customers.

Yesterday was Mom and Dad's anniversary.  Daddy took me with him to the Hallmark store to pick out a card for Mom.  Everyone came over and talked to me and petted me--they were so nice.  Mom and Dad went out to dinner (without me!) to celebrate.  Oh well, happy anniversary anyway, Mom and Dad.

We're going to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie for the weekend.  I can't wait.  It's so much fun at the farm.  But Dad says I can't go to the Mizzou footballl game.  Not fair!  I think they should be called the Mizzou Dachshunds because Dachshunds are fierce.  GRRRRRRR!!!!!!  Tigers, schmigers--Dachshunds Rule!

I hope you and your favorite pet have a fun and relaxing weekend.  Talk to you next week!

P.S.  Remember 9/11.  Say a prayer for all of those who lost their lives and for those who lost a loved one.  Love, Gretchie

September 1st:  Gee, it's September already.  Didn't summer go by fast?  And now we can look foward to lots of fun things in the fall.  Cool weather, colorful leaves, pumpkins, (how about some pumpkin pie, Mom!)  There's always lots of great stuff to do.

Mom and Dad took me to The Boathouse in Forest Park for dinner.  What fun!  There were other dogs there, too.  There were people paddling the boats out in the water and a baby duckling walked right up to our table.  Good thing Mom had a grip on me so I couldn't jump down to eat, I mean, play with him.  Mom and Dad shared their sandwiches and french fries with me.  I was very good and didn't bark or whine or anything.  I was too busy looking at everyone and everything to get into trouble.  Next time we go, Dad promises to take me for a ride in a canoe.  Maybe I'll see you there!

August 25th:  It's me again.  Mom and Dad moved Drew up to Mizzou last week.  I didn't get to ride along which I thought was very unfair.  It sure is quiet now around the house without Drew.  I liked to bark at him and wake up Mom and Dad when he would come back home about 2:00 in the morning.  On Thursday I helped Mom clean and paint Drew's room.  I chased after the carpet steamer and tried to step into the paint pan.  I think it's important to help with household chores.

Saturday we went to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  I got to eat barbeque and explore the farm.  It was such a pretty day.  Mom and I went for a long walk up the road to our farm where Dad was working on our new fence.  There is so much to smell and explore.  And I got to help round up the chickens and get them back into their house.  At night, we could hear the coyotes howling out in the woods.  Ooohhh, they sound scary.  On Sunday, I helped Uncle Jim and Dad pick grapes.  Then I watched them make grape juice. There's always something fun to do at the farm.

August 12th:  Hello Everyone!  How is your week going?  I've been busy helping out around the house and taking naps in my favorite sunny spot.  My green tennis ball and I have been having lots of fun together.  I chased a wasp that got inside the patio door and almost got stung.  Mom took it away from me before I got hurt.  Mom is still looking for the little orange kitty she saw last week, but no luck so far.  I just posted a new adventure, so be sure to take a look.  Talk to you soon!

August 7th:  Gee, it's been busy.  Last Sunday, the whole family came over for a party to celebrate Drew leaving for Mizzou.  It was so much fun!  I got petted and carried around and got to eat lots of tasty stuff.  It was such a pretty day that we were outside most of the time.  There was lots of mostioccioli, turkey and ham sandwiches, dips and chips and salads, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers right out of our garden, and two kinds of cake.  Wow, I didn't know who to beg from first.  I stuck close to my best buddy, Grandpa, at dinner time--he always feeds me lots of good things.

Early last Wednesday morning, Mom saw a little orange kitty by the road next to our house.  It ran away and hid in the brush.  She's been trying to find it ever since.  Last night, Dad and Mom and I went for a walk to look for it.  Mom brought along some cat food in case we saw it to try to get it to come to her.  We didn't find it, but Mom says she'll keep looking.  Poor kitty.  Dad says the coyotes have probably already found it, but Mom just ignores him.  She's determined!

Jasmine and I have been staying busy playing on the deck and napping in the sun.  I hope you find the time to take a nap in a sunny spot yourself.  Summer is flying by--you've got to stop and smell the roses!  Have a great weekend, everyone!

July 22nd:  I had a fun weekend.  On Saturday I hung out with Mom around the house and played with my very most favorite toy, my green tennis ball, out on the deck.  It was such a pretty day.  I got to bark at the bunnies in the yard and the cars passing by.  Then I laid in the sun and snoozed.  On Sunday, Dad and Mom and I went for a drive on the Great River Road up to Pere Marquette State Park.  I love to go for rides, don't you?  We rode on the Brussells Ferry and on the Golden Eagle Ferry.  I had fun riding back and forth across the river.  On the way back home, we stopped at a farm and Dad bought peaches, nectarines and blackberries.  Yum!

Daddy keeps pigeons out in the backyard and there are two new babies.  Dad is really happy about that.  Dad took me out with him to see the vegetable garden in back of the chicken house.  He told me about the pumpkins and corn and squash and all kinds of stuff.  I've never tasted a pumpkin, but they sure look tasty.

I hope you are having a nice week.  Talk to you soon!

July 14th:  I got caught eating Mom's hibiscus flowers again yesterday.  Mom yelled at me!  I guess it was all the yellow pollen around my mouth and the flower petal stuck on my nose that gave me away.  Gee, I can't help it--they just look so tasty.  Then I kept Mom busy getting my green tennis ball out from under the sofa.  I like to roll it under there with my nose and then stand there and whine until Mom comes to get it out again.  It's a little game we play.  I'm pretty sure I enjoy it a lot more than Mom does.  I hope you find time to play some fun games, too.

July 6th:  It's me again.  Hope your week is a good one.

I met the cutest puppy over the 4th of July holiday.  Her new parents rescued her from a rural property where she had been left to die.  She was so tiny she barely weighed 3 pounds and she looked just like a tiny teddy bear.  So they named her "Teddi".  She was one lucky puppy.  I wish all people would be kind to animals.

Check out my latest adventure, the "4th of July".  Have a great day and give your pet a hug from me.

July 1st:  Hi Everyone!  Mom finally got her act together and is updating my page!  It's about time, Mom.

Gee, we have been busy around here.  Mom and Drew went to Mizzou for Summer Welcome last week.  Gosh, I'm gonna miss Drew when he leaves next month for college.  We're buddies.  I take naps with him on his bed.  We sing together (really we howl, but calling it singing sounds better).  I like to sneak into his room and steal socks and stuff.  And he always has food in there.

We visited Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie for Father's Day and Aunt Val's 50th birthday.  They had a big party to celebrate.  That was fun--lots of good food and lots of people to pet me.  I got to play with Sammy and Honey, my bestest friends.  It's always fun at Uncle Jim and Aunt Val's house.

Daddy has been super busy with his business.  And I've been super busy getting into trouble.  Let's see--I chewed a hole in Dad's new jeans, I stole a sock out of Drew's room,  I stole Daddy's sandwich off of his plate when he wasn't looking, I ate a couple more flowers on the deck--all in all just the usual fun stuff.  I hope you're having a fun summer, too.

June 3rd:  Well, I am in the doghouse today.  I was playing outside on the deck yesterday when I noticed how all the pretty flowers on Mom's plants sure looked tasty.  So, I ate all the hibiscus flowers.  I didn't see anything wrong with that, but Mom had a different opinion.  Not only did she yell at me, but she won't let me out on the deck anymore unless she or Dad are out there, too.  I can't run in and out whenever I feel like it anymore.  Not fair, Mom!  I can't help it if flowers make a good snack.  Anyway, last night Mom gave me a chewy bone so I guess she's not too mad at me.  It pays to be cute, let me tell you!

June 1st:  Here is a photo of Daddy and me from last spring outside of Crane's Store near Montgomery City.  They have the best burgers!  And ice cream, too.  Yummmm.   We like to stop there on the way home from the farm.  If you're up that way, tell them Gretchen Duever sent you.

May 29th:  Hi everyone!  Hope you are having fun now that Summer is here.  I love the warm weather, don't you?  I've been busy playing out on the deck and chasing Jasmine around the house.  I visited the chickens yesterday.  The baby chicks are getting almost as big as the hens.  I wanted to chase them, but Daddy wouldn't let me in the pen.  Darn!

I got to go with Daddy the other day when he ran his errands.  We went to a store that sells fish and pond supplies.  I ran to each fish tank and visited with all the fish.  I wanted to go swimming with them, but Dad said no.  Darn it again!    The girls in the store were really nice to me.  I got to tag along to a customer's house, too.  I love riding around with my Dad.  If you see me out and about in Dad's truck, be sure to wave "hello".

May 22nd:  My big brother, Drew, graduates from Lafayette High School on Sunday.  I think they should allow dogs at graduations, don't you?  Anyway, I hope he has fun (without me!)  Congratulations, Drew and everyone from the Class of 2009!!!!

Have a Happy Memorial Day weekend!  Don't forget to remember our brave Veterans and all of our troops now in service to our country.

May 18th:  Boy what a great weekend I had.  We went to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Val.  I got to play with my best friends, Sammy the cat and Honey the dog.  Sammy and I had so much fun wrestling and Honey and I chased each other around the yard.   Aunt Valerie gave me lots of treats to eat.  I didn't get to chase any chickens, but it was fun anyway!

May 12th:  Yesterday I helped Mom clean the house by making more messes for her to clean up.  I like to be helpful!  When I got bored with helping Mom, I played outside with my very most favorite green tennis ball and barked at the birds.  Mom gave me a snack and then I took a nap in the sunshine.  What a great day!

The Senior Class at Lafayette is in their last full week of high school.  Good luck on your finals next week!

May 5th:  Yesterday I helped Mom with her gardening.  She planted some pretty flowers and I barked at the new baby chicks and the cars that passed by.  I had fun, but Mom kept telling me to be quiet.  It was fun to be outside and play on such a nice day.  I hope you had a fun day, too.

Here are a couple of Prom photos of my big brother, Drew, and some of his friends.  Everyone looks great!  Congratulations to the Lafayette High School Class of 2009!

May 1st:  Hi Everyone.  Here's a shout out to the Lafayette High School Class of 2009 for a great prom tomorrow night.  Have fun and be safe!

I hope all of my friends have had a great week.  I have been super busy playing with my very most favorite green tennis ball and barking at the people and cars that pass by on the road next to our house.  In between, I've been busy begging for Cheez-Its which, in my humble opinion, is the greatest snack ever!!!  The 4 new baby chicks are staying in their house in the garage since its too cold and rainy for them to be outside with the big chickens just yet.  They aren't smart enough to go inside the house at night.  I guess they could sleep with Mom and Dad like I do, but that hasn't happened.  I guess it would be a little crowded.  Have a great weekend!

April 24th:  Happy Birthday, Mom!  Oh boy, I love birthdays even when it isn't mine.  Birthdays mean cake and presents.  Yaayyy!!  I love cake.  Have a super great weekend everyone.  P.S.  The Humane Society is having an adoption event this Saturday at all three of their centers.  This event is for all the dogs and puppies recently rescued from puppy mills. If you have room in your home and heart for a dog in need of a loving home, check it out!  Mommy and Daddy rescued me and look how great I turned out!  Love, your friend, Gretchen.

April 15th:  I hope your week is going great.  Mine has been pretty good so far.  The Easter Bunny brought me a chewy bone (yummy!)  I got to go along to Grandpa and Grandma's house and visit with the whole family.  I even found an egg during the Easter egg hunt.  And I ate ham and potatoes.  Wow, what a great day!  I was living high on the hog, as Daddy likes to say.  I hope you had fun, too.

April 6th:  Mom told me the Easter Bunny is coming.  I don't know what that means, but I like to chase bunnies, so this could be fun.  She said if I'm good, the Easter Bunny will bring me a treat.  I am trying very hard to be good except for the hole I chewed in Dad's favorite jeans the other day--oops!  Maybe the Easter Bunny won't find out about that.  Dad has been busy coloring six dozen eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt and Mom has the house decorated in bunnies, chicks and flowers.  I guess this Easter Bunny is a big deal.  I sure hope he brings me something good.  I hope he brings you something good, too!

March 25th:  Sunny, but a little breezy out there today.  I need a sweater!  I have been laying on a warm, sunny spot on the floor and napping.  Mom has been busy torturing Dad making him watch "Dancing With The Stars".  Mom made burgers last night and I got my own special little Gretchen burger for dinner.  Yum!  I hope every pet has someone making them special treats.  Mom bought a cookie cutter shaped like a dachshund to make Gretchen Butter Cookies.  They're "tail wagging good".  I am the Official Taste Tester.  What a great job!  Thanks, Mom.
Here's some kisses and hugs from me to you.  XXXOOOOO   Have a super day!

P.S.  If you go to Lafayette with my big brother, Drew, tell him how great he looks without his wisdom teeth.  Tell him Gretchen said so!!!

March 16thHappy Birthday, Dad.  You're the best!  If you see my Dad, give him a big kiss from me!

Hi everyone.  Hope you are doing just fine.  Yesterday, Mom and Dad and I rode up to our farm to drop off a load of logs.  Dad is saving up logs to build a log cabin with (someday!).  Then we stopped at Crane's Country Store for the best cheeseburgers anywhere.  Yummy!!!!  They sure know how to cook.  After lunch we drove to Grandpa and Grandma's farm to check the cows and explore the farm.  There was lots of mud and puddles and cowpies to play in.  What fun!  I ran and played and had a great time getting dirty.  The cows were enjoying the warm, sunny day.  While Dad checked on them, Mom and I went looking for arrowheads and interesting rocks.  Soon it was time to go.  I slept almost all the way back.  And even though I had to take a bath when we got home, anytime I can eat cheeseburgers and play in the mud it's a super fantastic day!

March 2nd:  Wow, its March already!  What a fun weekend I had.  Dad and Mom and I went to visit with Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  I got to play with my best friends, Sammy the cat and Honey the dog.  Uncle Jim, Daddy and I went for a long walk around Uncle Jim's farm.  I led the way so I could guard Daddy and Uncle Jim from danger.  We saw two big deer, but we weren't hunting--just exploring.  It was cold, so I wore my bright pink coat to keep warm.  In the afternoon,  Daddy and Uncle Jim made sausage from our deer meat and our beef.  Mmmmmm...it sure smelled good.  I kept hanging around trying to snag a sample, but I didn't get any at all.  Not fair!  But I did get a chewy bone to keep me busy.  We stopped at Grandpa's farm on the way home so Dad could check on the cows.  Then it was time to curl up and take a nap for the drive home.  Even though Mom made me take a bath it was well worth it.  I hope you had a great weekend!

February 27th:  I went shopping today at Bass Pro Shop with Daddy.  I love to go shopping and ride around in the shopping cart.  I barked at the big stuffed bear and growled at the stuffed foxes and helped Daddy pick out some new socks.  I hope you had a fun day, too!

February 24th:  Hi Everyone!  Mom said to tell the girls at Lafayette they all looked gorgeous last Saturday night!  In other news, Mom made me take a bath yesterday (gee whiz!) but I got a treat for being so good in the tub, so it worked out okay.  Daddy is teaching me to howl along with him in a duet.  Mom does not think this is such a good idea, but she said she'll take a video of us singing tegether and try to get it on the website.

February 18th:  All is well here at home.  The Valentine dinner party was great--I got lots of treats and hugs from everyone.  Jasmine has been swatting me in the head a lot lately, but I can't complain.  I manage to get her back pretty good.  I hope you are having a great week.

February 13th: Tomorrow is Valentine's Day--the day of love.  I hope Mom and Dad show me some love and give me lots of treats!  Mom and Dad are having a dinner party so I'm practicing my best begging tricks.  My latest one is where I dance around on my back legs and look especially cute.  I hope you have a really wonderful Valentine's Day.

February 2nd:  Happy Groundhog Day!  Looks like we'll have six more weeks of winter.  Dad has been busy putting a new roof on the chicken pen and Mom has been busy around the house and feeling bad that Kurt Warner didn't win the Super Bowl.  Get over it, Mom.  I got a new blanket yesterday from Grandma.  It's really soft and has a picture of a dog and cat on it.  Thanks Grandma!

January 30th:  Super Bowl weekend is here.  Mom is rooting for Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals.  Mom loves Kurt Warner so much that Dad is starting to get suspicious.  Anyway, I hope I get to have some Super Bowl snacks!  Have a great weekend everyone.

January 22nd:  Hi Everyone!  Last Sunday, Dad and Mom and I took a ride up the Great River Road in Alton to see the eagles.  On the way, we stopped at McDonald's and I got my own little bag of french fries.  Yummy!!!!  We saw so many eagles--sitting in trees, flying around and sitting on the ice in the river.  Mom took photos and will add a new adventure once she finds the cable to connect the camera to the computer.  Gee whiz, Mom, get organized!   In other news, I forgot to tell you that my big brother Drew has been accepted to Mizzou for next fall.  Way to go, Drew!  Also, Mom is talking about entering me in the pet parade for Mardi Gras.  If there's food involved, I'm all for it!  Have a super weekend and I'll talk to you soon.

January 16th:  Gee, its cold outside!  Twelve degrees today is about as high as the temperature is going to get.  I hope you are staying safe and warm!  Mom refilled the bird feeder yesterday.  I helped her by eating the seeds the birds dropped on the deck.  Lots of birds are visiting us to get something to eat--Cardinals and Chippies and Blue Jays--and lots of other ones I'm not sure about.  Jasmine is having fun sitting by the patio door and watching the birds and dreaming of catching them.  Ha ha fat chance of that!  Mom won't let her out there to chase the birds.  I've been staying warm by jumping up on Mom's lap every time she has a chance to sit down.  At night, I crawl into bed between Mom and Dad and snuggle up.  Cozy!!

January 12th:  Mom, Dad and I rode up to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie on Sunday.  On the way, we stopped at Grandpa's farm to check on the cows.  It's a good thing we did.  When we got there, a cow was standing in the middle of the road--she got out and couldn't find her way back in.  Daddy chased her down the road and Mom stood by the gate to guide her back in.  Then I got to run all around the farm.  What fun--except one of the cows decided I was really interesting and decided to chase me.  I ran back to Mom for cover.  Then we had a really nice visit with Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  And we had hot dogs for dinner.  Yum!!!

January 6th:  It's a brand new year.  I wonder what great adventures we'll have together this year!  Isn't it fun to dream about the year ahead?....trips to take and friends to make and fun to have.  Mom has been busy taking down the Christmas decorations.  The upstairs tree is still up so I have been taking naps under the tree while I can.  I'm gonna miss that Christmas tree.  Dad and Grandpa moved Tinsel and his Momma up to Grandpa and Grandma's farm in the country so they can be with the rest of the herd.  Daddy wouldn't take me along because he said it was too hard to keep an eye and me and move Tinsel and his Mom at the same time.  Humpf!  As if I can't take care of myself!  Not fair, Dad!

December 30th:  We have a new baby calf.  He was born at Grandpa and Grandma's farm in St. Louis the day after Christmas.  Grandpa named him Tinsel.  He's really cute!  I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year!  More later.  Love and kisses, your friend Gretchen.

December 19th:  Hello to my new friend, Takashi Ito.  Takashi sent me an e-mail to tell me my website has been selected as "Cool Dog Site of the Day" for December 30th.  I am excited!  Its so nice to make new friends!  If you would like to visit their website, look on the "Gretchen's Links" page for information.  And vote for me for Best Dog Site of the Month!

December 18th:  Oh Boy, Christmas is next week.  I'm hoping Santa brings me some toys and a new chewy bone.  I have been extra good this year.  I haven't chewed up any clothes or shoes in months!  I've been a really brave watch dog.  And I have been extra specially nice to Jasmine.  Being nice to cats should count double, don't you think?  Just in case, I will ask Mom to leave cookies and milk for Santa.  Bribery never hurts you know.  I hope Santa brings you something especially nice.  Have a super weekend everyone!!

December 9th:  Hi everyone.  Hope you are having a great December so far.  I've been busy playing with my favorite green tennis ball and taking naps underneath the Christmas tree.  The tree is right next to a big window where the sun shines in and its just perfect for curling up on the pretty tree skirt and taking a nap.  Ahhhh.  On Sunday, Mom and Dad took me for a walk down on Main Street in historic St. Charles.  I met so many nice people who stopped to pet me and say "hi".  Mom bundled me up in my best winter coat so I stayed warm while we walked.  There was lots to see and do and smell.  What fun!

December 1:  Mom has been decorating every inch of the house for Christmas.  We have two Christmas trees, one upstairs and one downstairs.  Drew and big brother, John, hung all the outside lights and put up all the wreaths on the windows.  It looks like we're ready for Santa!  This week, Mommy is hosting a Cookie Exchange and has been busy baking yummy stuff that she won't let me have.  Not fair, Mom!  Dogs need cookies, too!!

Mom keeps a bird feeder out on the deck. Everytime she gets out the bag of seed to refill the feeder, I run to the patio door so I can go out too.  I like to eat the seed that the birds have scattered on the deck.  Yummy!  Its really helpful of me to clean up after them, don't you think?

Daddy thinks he's funny.  Cut it out, Dad!

November 18th:  Wow, it's been busy.  Halloween was lots of fun.  I dressed up as a ballerina.  Mom made me a purple tutu with little flowers on it and put bows in my hair.  I got treats, too!  We visited Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  I got to see my friends, Sammy and Honey and the chase chickens and go for long walks.  Aunt Valerie always gives me lots of treats.  I sure have fun visiting them.  My big brother, Drew, has been busy applying to colleges.  Last night, he played his guitar for me and Mom.  I think he was playing "Jingle Bells".

Daddy went deer hunting last weekend (without me!) and got two deer.  I stayed home and played with Mom and Jasmine.  This weekend I'm going to help Mom start decorating for Christmas.  I'm sure I will be a big help!

October 21st:  This morning I woke Mom up at 3:15 a.m. for breakfast.  I was hungry.  I don't think she was too happy about it and she made me wait until 4:30 a.m. before she gave me and Jasmine our breakfast.  Gee whiz, Mom!  It was really the coyotes' fault.  Their howling woke me up and, well, if I'm up anyway, might as well eat breakfast!

October 17th:  Last Saturday was my birthday.  I am two years old.  I got lots of presents and treats--a new red sweater, chewy treats, two new balls and a squeaky toy that looks like a cupcake.  Mom took lots of pictures and says she will write more about it in a few days.

Yesterday, Mom and I took a walk on the new levee trail.   What a pretty day.  We walked really far.  I was pooped by the time we got back to the car.  When we got home, I curled up in a sunny spot and took a nap.

Have a great weekend everybody!

October 7th:  Yesterday I helped Mommy clean house.  We mopped the floors, dusted and vaccuumed.  Mom does a nice job.  The house was all shiny.  Then she decided to make me take a bath.  Gee whiz!  It did make me all nice and fluffy.  Mom gave me a treat after my bath, so it wasn't all bad.  I wasn't the only one to get a bath.  After she was done with me, she gave her Chatty Cathy doll a shampoo and bath.  She washed all of Chatty's clothes, too.  Mom told me how long she's had her doll.  I won't tell you how long, but its a really really really long time.  Like a gazillion dog years.  Mom must be older than she looks.  Don't tell her I said that!

September 29th:  Mommy, Daddy and I drove up to check on Grandpa's farm on Sunday.  The big rains we had two weeks ago damaged some of the fencing and Daddy wanted to check on things and make sure the cows were okay.  On the way, we stopped at McDonald's.  Yum!!!  I had some french fries and a part of Mommy's hamburger.  At the farm, we walked all the way around the farm along the fence line.  There was lots to smell and explore.  The farm sure is pretty.  The leaves are just starting to turn colors.  We had just started walking up the last hill when I heard Daddy say, "Watch out for that snake" and then Mommy screamed!  It was a big black snake about six feet long.  Mommy was afraid I would go and get it because I'm such a fierce watchdog.  Mommy took off up the hill and I chased after her.  Daddy said the snake was more afraid of us then we were of him and he kept laughing about Mommy screaming.  He said he never heard anyone scream in three octaves before.  Anyway, then we drove over to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie.  Mommy, Aunt Valerie and I went shopping at The Apple Wagon antique store.  I got to ride around in the cart and lots of people stopped and hugged and petted me.  Later when we got home, Mom made me take a bath, but all in all, it was a really fun day.  I hope you had a fun day, too!

September 22nd:  Not much happening this last weekend.  We stayed around the house and got some chores done.  I helped Mom mop the floors by following her around and putting my paw prints all over the wet floors.  She didn't seem to appreciate it, but I thought it looked artistic.  Jasmine and I played out on the deck and I barked at the chickens.  On Sunday we went took a drive to Washington, Missouri to pick up chicken feed.  It's a pretty ride and I played "lookout" and made sure Dad was being a good driver.  And I got a treat from the feed store for being extra good.  Have a super week everybody!

September 19th:  Check out my latest adventure.  I'm running for President!  Cookies for everyone!

September 16th:  Boy, that was a lot of rain on Sunday.  I hope you stayed dry this weekend.  We had lots of water in our yard, but the chickens all stayed safe and dry in their chicken house.

Grandpa and Grandma, John, Joe and Joe and Laura and Baby Brendan came for dinner Sunday.  Mom made lots of meatballs and spaghetti.  It was fun to visit with everyone.  I even got a taste of the cheesecake.  Yum!

This morning I woke up Mom at 4:00 because I was hungry and wanted my breakfast.  I kept walking all over her in bed trying to get her up.  She made me wait until 4:30 and then finally fed me and Jasmine.  She kept muttering something about me being high maintenance.  Hey, if you're hungry you should eat--that's my motto.

Yesterday I hung around the house with Mom and helped her do laundry.  She wouldn't let me go out with her to feed the chickens and pick some vegetables in the garden because the yard was still wet and mushy from the rain.  She made me stay on the deck so I barked at her the whole time.  Not fair, Mom!  Then after lunch I cuddled up in Mom's lap and took a nap while she read her book. A pretty nice way to spend the afternoon if you ask me.  I hope you had a nice day, too.

September 12th:  A rainy day--perfect for napping on the couch!  Mommy and Daddy are going to a dance tomorrow night (without me!).  But that's okay because we're having a family dinner on Sunday for Drew's 18th birthday.  My best buddy Grandpa will be here, so I know I'll get lots of treats.  Grandpa always feeds me under the table.  And Mom is making spaghetti and meatballs for Drew's favorite dinner.  Mmmmm, meatballs!  I can't wait.  I hope you have a great weekend and if you see my big brother Drew, tell him Happy Birthday!

September 9th:  Hi, everyone.  Did you have a nice weekend?  Daddy and Mommy and I went to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie over the weekend.  I took lots of walks and played with my friends, Sammy and Honey.  I didn't get a chance to chase the chickens, though.  I think they're on to me and kept me away from them.  Darn!  We brought porksteaks to barbeque and they were yummy!  Mom gave me a bubble bath as soon as we got home and I was so tired I curled up on a pillow and went right to sleep.  Ahhhh, the good life.

Did you see the little mini dachshund up for adoption on "Today in St. Louis" on Monday?  Her name is Tulip and she looks like she could be my sister.  Mommy called about her, but someone had already adopted her.  Darn it, I was that close to getting a sister!

September 2nd:  Daddy, Mommy and I drove up to Grandpa and Grandma's farm on Sunday to help get some projects done.  Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie, Aunt Judy, Aunt Jill and Uncle Mark came up, too.  I supervised while everyone worked on cleaning up the yard, laying a new sidewalk, painting the front door and putting in a front gate.  My cousin, Melinda, carried me everywhere and treated me like a princess.  I got to go for walks around the farm with Mom and Daddy found a really neat arrowhead.  There was a brand new baby calf and Daddy caught it and put the tag in its ear.  The cows have ear tags so Grandpa can keep track of them.  I'm glad puppies don't have to have ear tags!  Then we had a fish fry with french fries and potato salad and cupcakes.  YUM!!  What a great way to end the summer--family, fun and food.

August 25th: Daddy, Mommy and I drove up to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie this past weekend.  The neighbors came over to visit and we all had chili for supper.  Yum.  I got to play with my best friend, Sammy the Cat.  We sure had fun wrestling and playing.   I chased some of the chickens when I got away from Mom. Ha, ha what fun. Those chickens run fast, but I'm faster!  If you ask me, they ought to have chicken chasing in the Olympics.  I would win the gold medal. Mom caught me though and gave me a swat on the behind for being bad.  Not fair, Mom!  The chickens like to be chased, really they do.  Anyway I got lots of treats and had lots of fun.  I was so tired that I slept all the way home.  I hope you had a fun weekend, too!

August 18th:  Hi everybody.  I hope you had a nice weekend.  It sure was pretty weather.  On Sunday, Daddy and I got up early and drove up to our farm to drop off some logs.  Mommy stayed at home to do girl stuff.  I got to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie and my best friend, Sammy.  We didn't stay too long because Daddy wanted to get home and spend some time with Mom (without me!!).  Have a great week, everyone.

August 13th:  Daddy, Mommy and I took a walk last night on the new Levee trail along the Missouri River.  I love going for walks.  There weren't very many people out, so Mom and Dad let me walk ahead of them and lead the way.  Whenever a bicyclist came by, I was very polite and moved to the side of the walk and stopped until they passed by.  It was such a nice evening with a pretty moon up in the sky.  Here's a photo of me bravely leading the way.  C'mon Mom and Dad!

This is a picture of my brother, Drew.  He's starting his Senior year at
Lafayette.  I hope its the best year ever!!  Study hard, big brother.  I promise not to chew up too many of your socks while you're at school.  Love, Gretchie

August 12th:  What a fun weekend I had.  Grandma and Grandpa came over for dinner on Saturday night.  I love my best buddy, Grandpa!  I was so excited to see him that I ran around in circles.  Mom made chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and cornbread for dinner.  I got to sit at the table in my own chair and Mom and Dad gave me a few samples.  But I jumped down and snuck under the table over to Grandpa.  He gave me lots of samples.  Yummy!  Then Cousin Harriet stopped by and she stayed and had dessert with us.    On Sunday, we drove up to Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie's house.  Mom went shopping (without me!!) with Aunt Valerie and her two girls, Heather and Laurel.  Daddy drove over (without me!!) to check on the cows at Grandpa's farm.  But I got a treat to chew on while they were gone, so it wasn't too bad.  Later, when we were all outside, I chased one of the chickens all over the yard and into the garage.  Ha ha!  But Uncle Jim finally caught me.  I didn't get into trouble since everyone was too busy laughing.  I hope you had a fun weekend, too.

August 1:  Wow, it's August already.  Summer is flying by.  Check out my new adventure, "I Help Daddy Bale Hay".  (Mom finally got her act together and added it.  Don't tell her I said that!  She might make me take a bath or something.)

I hope your summer has been nice.  Have fun and always remember to look for your next adventure!  Your friend, Gretchen.

July 28:  We have 8 new baby chicks.  One yellow one, one yellow and black one, one gray one who looks like a penguin and the rest are all black.  Daddy had them in a pen in the garage so he could keep an eye on them for the first couple of days.  I got to visit them the other night.  I barked so loud that I scared the mother hen and all the babies so Mom took me back inside.  Not fair, Mom!  I just wanted to play with them--and maybe chase them a little.  Gee whiz!  Anyway, Daddy built them a special covered pen right in the middle of the backyard until they get big enough to live in the chicken house with the rest of the flock.  Its a great big pen too, with a big white tarp for a roof.  Mom just shakes her head and sighs a lot.

July 15:  Hi everyone!  Gee, its been a busy summer so far.  We visited Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie for 4th of July.  What a great time!  I chased the rooster, ate barbeque, played with Sammy and went for walks with Mom and Dad.  Also, I helped Uncle Jim and Daddy rake and bale hay.  Mom will be adding that to My Adventures when she gets her act together.  (Just kidding, Mom).  Meantime, here's a picture of me and Mom in Daddy's truck.  We were waiting for him while he checked on a new baby calf at Grandpa's farm.

June 11:  Gee, its been awhile. Here's an update.  I lost one pound just like my doctor wanted me too.  Yeah!!!  Mom is wondering how I did it because I still eat everything I possibly can.  Ha ha ha!  Now I'm svelte.  That means slim and trim.  I had to get an extra shot for the Lyme disease vaccine because of all the ticks I get when I play at the farm.  But that's okay.  I was extra good and brave at the doctor's office and everyone petted me and gave me treats.  They are so nice to me.  Sunday I will be going to Grandpa and Grandma's to see the whole family for Father's Day.  What fun!

Happy 58th Anniversary to Grandma and Grandpa.  Here they are on their wedding day, June 17, 1950.

May 16:  Grandpa had two new baby calves born this week.  One is a girl and the other is a boy.  Grandpa named the baby girl calf "Joanne" after my Mom.  That's nice, but I think Gretchen would be better.   We're going to visit Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie this weekend.  Yaaaaayyyyy!!!  I'll get to see my friend Sammy.   And run around and chase chickens.  Oh boy.  I'll let you know about all the fun I had when I get back.  Have a super weekend everybody!

May 8th:  Here is a photo of the family of geese at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  They just had 6 babies.  Mom says they are goslings.  Anyway, aren't they cute!

I hope all the Moms have a very Happy Mother's Day.  I love my Mom.  She cuddles with me and gives me treats and takes me to all kinds of places.  She even lets me sleep in bed with her.  Tell your Mom you love her a whole bunch.  Be sure to give your Mom a big hug and kiss from me!  Love, Gretchen
Look closely and you'll see the baby geese with their Mom and Dad.

May 5th:  Mom, Dad and I went to the farm on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day to go exploring.  We walked all around the farm and made sure all the cows were fine.  There are lots of new calves.  Mom's boots got stuck in the mud and Dad had to pull her out.  She was yelling "I'm stuck" while Dad laughed.  Ha ha.  But not me.  I ran through the puddles, jumped over logs, crawled under fences and had a great time.  On the way home we stopped at the antique store and I rode around in the cart and rested while Mom and Dad shopped.  Then I slept on Mom's lap while we rode back home.  Mom made me take a bath when we got home, but that's okay.  It was a fun day!

April 29:  Hi Everyone!  Hope you are having a fantastic day.  I finally got to meet Brendan, the new baby in the family.  I have to admit he is pretty cute.  Check it out in "My Adventures".  See you soon!!!

April 25:  Here's a big Gretchen shout out to all my peeps at Lafayette High School who I hear check out my website from time to time.  Cool!  The school year is almost over so study hard and make those final grades fantastic.  And here's a big hug and kiss to my big brother, Drew!!!

April 24th:  Happy Birthday, Mom!  Can I have some of that cake, please?

April 18th:   WOW!  We're rocking and rolling.  Did you feel that earthquake?  I was with Daddy downstairs watching tv when it happened.  I kept running in circles around and around the couch trying to figure out why the house was shaking!  Daddy took me upstairs so I could get a hug from Mom.  Nothing like Mom (and breakfast) to take my mind off of an earthquake.  Every day brings something new, that's for sure.  Have a great weekend and stay safe!

April 15:  Be sure to see my latest adventure called, "Counting Cows".  Have a great day, everyone!

April 11:  The new baby chicks have gotten big enough to live in the chicken pen.  Daddy made a divider in the chicken yard so they have their own play area.  That way the big chickens can't pick on them.  They have a special house with a warming light.  There are photos of the new chicks in the slideshow below.

April 1st:  Spring is here!  The yard has been too muddy for me to go out and play.  But Mom did carry me around and show me the daffodills that are blooming all over the yard.  Pretty!

We have 15 new baby chicks.  They are too little to live in the chicken house with the grown up chickens.  It's too cold and rainy. They are living in the garage right now so they stay warm and dry.  They have a special cage with a light to keep them warm.  Daddy showed them to me and I tried to bite them, so now I can't visit them anymore.  But just wait until they're bigger.  Then I can chase them.  Ha Ha!!  First I'll have to figure out how to get inside the chicken pen.

March 12:  Dad and Mom are new grandparents.  Brendan Joseph arrived yesterday.  He weighs 9 pounds--almost as much as me.  They wouldn't let me go to the hospital to visit him.  I tried to tell Mom and Dad that he would be glad to see me.  Here's a picture of Mom, Dad and Baby Brendan.  I have to admit, he is almost as cute as me!  I can't wait to play with him.

March 7:  Check out our new baby calf on "My Adventures".

Feb 19:  Back to the farm last Sunday to check on the cows.  It was cold and rainy but I wore my raincoat and walked the farm with my Dad.  I didn't mind getting wet because I love to explore the farm so much.  It was hard to walk in the mud though.  Especially since my legs are only 3 inches long.  Some of the cows are due to have their babies and Dad wanted to be sure they were all okay.  When Dad stopped to check one cow, the bull came over to see what he was doing.  I jumped in between Dad and the bull.  I puffed myself up as big as I could and I barked at that bull.  After all, its my job to protect my family, right?  The bull backed up and walked away.  Ha Ha.  I showed him.  Dachshunds Rule!!!  Then we went back to the truck where Mom was waiting.  Mom got me dried off and cleaned up.  Then we drove to Uncle Jim and Aunt Valerie's house for a visit.  Aunt Val gave me a treat and I laid down by the fire.  Aaaahhhh!  We stopped at the antique store on the way home.  I like to ride in the cart while Mom and Dad shop.  The people at the store are so friendly.  Everyone pets me and tells me how cute I am.  The best part was when we stopped for hamburgers.  Yummy.  For the rest of the ride home, I curled up in Mom's lap and went to sleep.  Another great day.

February is here and that means Valentine's Day.  I got a new chewy bone!  I'm sending love and kisses to all my family and friends!

Feb 3:  I went up to the farm with Mommy and Daddy last weekend.  It was a warm and sunny day, perfect for exploring.  We walked all around the farm and counted the cows.  We have lots of babies, too. A baby cow is called a calf.  The calves are cute, but not as cute as puppies.  I stayed away from the cows even when they followed me for awhile.  If they step on me, I'm a goner.

We saw two eagles.  One was sitting in a tree.  We got pretty close to him before he flew away.  Mom was so excited to see him that she forgot to take a picture.  Boy he was big!!!  I sure hope they don't eat dachshunds.
